May 26th, 2024-Today, the 2nd "2024 International Zero-carbon City, Countryside and Zero-carbon Building Conference and Technology and Equipment Expo" (referred to as "Zero-carbon Conference") was grandly opened in Beijing National Convention Center. The conference was hosted by China Building Energy Conservation Association, with the theme of "promoting zero-carbon development of buildings and promoting green and low-carbon transformation of urban and rural areas", focusing on the actual needs, relevant policies and regulations, advanced technologies and standards in the field of global zero-carbon urban and rural construction under the "double-carbon" strategy, as well as the paths and methods to realize zero-carbon buildings. Further promote the high-quality development of zero-carbon buildings and lead the urban, rural and construction industries to a green future.
It provides China wisdom and China plan for promoting global green and low-carbon development. China has issued a series of policy documents, which have pointed out the direction for the work deployment, financial support and technology promotion of building energy conservation and carbon reduction and green and low-carbon development.
As a major consumer of energy and carbon emissions, the construction industry is of great significance for China to achieve the goal of "double carbon". With the continuous improvement of urbanization rate and residents’ living standards, China’s energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions in the construction sector will maintain a rigid growth, with great potential for energy conservation and carbon reduction. Accelerating energy conservation and carbon reduction in the construction sector, and comprehensively promoting the green transformation of urban and rural construction mode and management operation mode can effectively reduce the energy consumption and carbon emission level in engineering construction and building operation, and provide strong support for achieving the goal of carbon neutrality in peak carbon dioxide emissions. The greenhouse gas quantification process in the holding stage of this "Zero Carbon Conference" meets the principles of integrity, standardization, accuracy and transparency. The organizers have effectively controlled and reduced the carbon emissions of this conference by using environmental protection materials, optimizing waste management, encouraging the use of digital communication and other measures. The remaining emissions are 209 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent, which is offset by canceling the equivalent carbon credits that meet the requirements of relevant standards. The above process meets the requirements of the Implementation Guide for Carbon Neutralization in Large-scale Activities (Trial). Verified by China Quality Certification Center, this conference achieved carbon neutrality. China Quality Certification Center awarded the "Carbon Neutralization Certificate" for this conference.

This morning’s report mainly focuses on the related policies, industry direction, technology trends, domestic and foreign zero-carbon city development practices and experiences in the field of green and low-carbon transformation in urban and rural construction under the background of dual carbon. Experts at home and abroad shared such thematic reports as Green and Low-carbon Transformation of Real Estate Industry, Decarburization of Construction Industry: Global Action for a Low-carbon Future, and Low-carbon Path of Urban and Rural Energy Supply System.
In the afternoon, the forum focused on policies and regulations, solutions, and typical practice cases in the field of urban and rural construction to implement the "double carbon" goal. The agenda was rich and the content was equally exciting.
It is of great significance to implant the concept of low carbon, environmental protection and sustainability into urban development, and "double carbon" is the only way to meet the needs of a better life. The three theme reports, Green and Low-carbon Development of Urban Water System Pollution Control, Urban Green Development and Green Renewal-Sharing of Policy Research Projects of China International Cooperation Committee on Environment and Development, and Urban Rail Transit Land Intensive Use and Green and Low-carbon Road, combined with relevant theoretical and practical exploration at home and abroad, summarized the urban development strategy under the goal of "double carbon" and put forward the development strategy of eco-city in the new period from the aspects of space environment, green transportation, low-carbon industry, energy recycling and support system.
The production stage of building materials such as cement and steel is the link with the largest energy consumption and carbon emission in the whole construction process. The urgent task at present is to speed up the research on the key technologies of green and low-carbon building materials. The treatment of construction wood waste and urban wood waste such as waste furniture and landscaping branches is also worrying. Effective utilization is an important strategy to promote sustainable development and help realize ecological civilization construction. Two thematic reports, "Thoughts on Building Materials Realizing low-carbon life" and "Transformation from Building and Urban Wood Wastes to Carbon Fixing Biomass as a New Energy", focus on the above issues.

The main measures of carbon emission reduction in the construction field include improving quality and efficiency, full production capacity, energy consumption transformation, renovation and updating, and offset mechanism.
