In 2023, the National Coastal Rowing Championship ended in Zhejiang, and the players in Hubei Province won 1 silver and 1 bronze.
On November 26th, the 2023 National Coastal Rowing Championship ended in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province. Excellent athletes and coaches from all over the country staged the land and sea version of "Speed and Passion" on the most beautiful coastline of Xiangshan. After fierce competition, our team members won 1 silver and 1 bronze, our team won the second place in the total score of the group, and team member Li Chun won the Sports Ethics Award.
Coastal rowing is a new rowing sport in the world, and the competition takes the form of beach sprint and sea rowing. There are two channels and three events, namely men’s single sculls, women’s single sculls and mixed double sculls. The competition consists of qualifying, rematch, quarter-finals, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. Eight athletes from our province formed six boats and participated in all events.
On the court, with the referee’s command, the team members quickly ran from the starting point on the beach to the rowing boat on the beach, jumped on it quickly, and with the help of the crew, rowed hard in the rough waves, bypassed the buoy, returned to the beach, jumped out of the boat and finally crossed the finish line on the beach. The competition was tense and exciting, and the athletes all riveted their strength, running hard on the beach and fighting the wind and waves at sea.
After three days of fierce competition, Li Chun, a member of our province, won the silver medal in men’s single sculls with a score of 2 minutes 39.36 seconds. Xiong Yixi and Xiong Tenglong won the bronze medal of mixed double sculls in 2 minutes, 24 seconds and 49 seconds. Wu Yongmei won the fifth place in women’s single sculls; Niu Tianye and Wei Wenlin won the sixth place in the mixed double sculls.
The person in charge of the provincial aquatic center said that the coastal rowing has been included in the competition of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games and is expected to become the competition of the Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao National Games in 2025. Therefore, all provinces have sent top players to participate in the competition, with strong strength. Our province sent a team combination of "bringing the old with the new". Li Chun, 19, participated in the coastal rowing competition for the first time, won the silver medal and made great efforts. In addition, team member Niu Tianye won the second place in the professional mixed double sculls in the 2023 National Rowing Coast Sprint Invitational Tournament held in August this year. This mixed double boat with Wei Wenlin is the first time to cooperate and has not yet played its best level. Through observation, it is found that coastal rowing events require athletes to have high-level rowing skills, adaptability to wind and waves, explosive power of sprinting and strong basic physical support in the face of multiple rounds of competitions. In the future, the aquatic center will fully judge, strengthen training, form a champion model and form a composite team to provide strong support for the preparations for the 15 th National Games.
