Recently, East China Normal University Press, which compiles and distributes the famous brand of mathematics teaching AIDS in primary and secondary schools in China, announced that it will once again join hands with Harper Collins Publishing Group to export the same series of teaching AIDS, which focuses on training mental arithmetic ability, to Britain.
The excellent content and good reputation of China’s supplementary teaching materials are the basis for going to sea.
"One lesson, one practice" should start from 2012. That year, Shanghai students topped the PISA (programme for international student assessment) test organized by OECD for the second time. The British government sent a delegation to Shanghai to learn from the scriptures, and paid special attention to the mathematics learning mode of primary and secondary school students in Shanghai. It not only attended lectures in many primary and secondary schools in Shanghai, but also had discussions with teachers, and made a detailed investigation and research on the teaching materials and teaching AIDS used by teachers and students in China.
At the same time, East China Normal University Press began to wonder whether "One Lesson and One Practice" could be published in Britain. With the help of Professor Fan Lianghuo who worked at Southampton University in England at that time, in February 2015, East China Normal University Press, Harper Collins Publishing Group and Fan Lianghuo’s British Mathematics Education Team formally signed a written contract, and a set of 11 volumes (11 grades) of "Shanghai Mathematics Based on British National Curriculum Standards", namely "One Lesson and One Practice" (British Edition), was published by Harper Collins Publishing Group.
According to reports, the British academic system is 6 years in primary school and 5 years in junior high school. The first six volumes of this set of "Shanghai Mathematics Based on British National Curriculum Standards" were published in 2016, and the three volumes of grades 7 to 9 were published in 2017. The last two volumes are the most difficult because they need to supplement a lot of contents that are not available in Shanghai junior high school curriculum, and will continue to be published. The cooperation was smooth. East China Normal University Press and Harper Collins simply signed a strategic cooperation agreement, set up the "Shanghai Mathematics Project", and compiled a teacher’s book and a homework guide book around "One Lesson and One Practice" (UK Edition) for publication and use in the UK. In May this year, the two sides signed the "Three Moves to Pass the Customs" (British Edition), which is a teaching aid for training students’ mental arithmetic ability, which is matched with "One Lesson and One Practice" and has the characteristics of China mathematics teaching. Like "One Lesson and One Practice" (British Edition), according to the content and concept of the Chinese version of "Three Moves to Pass the Customs" and adapted according to the British national curriculum standards, the first to sixth grades will be published in two volumes, including the school version and the family version, with a total of 24 volumes.
In the words of Ni Ming, president of the Education Branch of East China Normal University Press, "Excellent content quality is the basis of copyright output." Distinguished professor of East China Normal University and Fan Lianghuo, editor-in-chief of One Lesson and One Practice (British Edition), said that One Lesson and One Practice has accumulated a good reputation among readers in China, which has made established British publishing houses optimistic about its market potential. In Britain, at present, more than 400 schools under more than 100 education departments (LEA) are using 6 volumes of the primary school part of One Lesson and One Practice (British Edition). In August 2017, after "One Lesson and One Practice" (British Edition) was publicly sold on the Amazon website in the UK, its popularity even surpassed some bestsellers. According to Gong Haiyan, vice president of East China Normal University Press, by the end of 2017, One Lesson and One Practice (British Edition) had sold more than 40,000 copies. More interestingly, due to the needs of many domestic schools and parents, this set of teaching AIDS has also been "exported to domestic sales", and further adjustments have been made on the basis of the British version. In August 2017, the "Shanghai English Version" was launched, based on the curriculum standards in Shanghai and written in English.
The popularity of "One Lesson and One Practice" overseas is not a case. In Malaysia, more than 50,000 students from 60 independent Chinese middle schools have used a complete set of science textbooks tailored for them by Zhejiang Education Publishing Group.
In the past, science, culture and biology were taught separately in junior high schools of Chinese independent secondary schools in Malaysia, but in recent years, the education trend in Europe and America is to adopt comprehensive science teaching in junior high schools. In 2011, in order to provide better Chinese education for Chinese school students, the Malaysian Federation of Chinese School Directors and the Malaysian Chinese School Teachers’ Association (referred to as "Director Dong") sought cooperation and support from the education and publishing circles in China. The science curriculum reform in junior middle schools in Zhejiang Province has a history of more than 20 years, and the science textbooks published by Zhejiang Education Press have been used all the time. The research and development team of the textbooks is strong, and the editorial team has rich experience. After several contacts, the Malaysian Dong Jiao Zong handed over the task of compiling junior high school science textbooks to Zhejiang Education Publishing Group. After six years of compilation, six textbooks and six teachers’ manuals were published in July 2016.
Considering the practical and cultural differences of overseas teaching, it is adapted together with local teachers.
Fan Lianghuo said that from the China edition to the British edition, it is not translation, but compilation. In his view, compared with other books, supplementary books need to pay more attention to the regionality of readers and the corresponding curriculum differences, and it is more difficult to export copyright. Compilers should not only understand the situation of mathematics education in China, but also be familiar with the situation in Britain. They should deal with the requirements of the British national mathematics curriculum standards for teaching in all grades, students’ living background, cultural and language differences between China and Britain, and so on. Around the British edition, the publishing house invited more than a dozen British university teachers to work with domestic experts in translation and adaptation.
The British version retains the original exercise volume, and does not reduce the difficulty. It only adds about 30% of the contents, such as temperature, Roman numerals, statistics, etc., and deletes some contents that are not learned in the curriculum standards, such as decimeters, absolute values, rays, etc., and also changes the application context, such as changing RMB into pounds.
The science textbooks compiled by Zhejiang Education Publishing Group for Malaysia have gone through a similar process. Compared with the textbooks used by local students in the past, this set of textbooks almost needs to be completely new. Malaysia’s junior high school science classes have more class hours and the teaching materials cover a wider range, and it is impossible to simply "move" the relatively mature Zhejiang Education Edition science textbooks. In 2012, the textbook writing team organized by Zhejiang Education Publishing Group specially went to Malaysia to attend the course in the local Chinese independent middle school and learn about the teaching situation and experimental environment. After repeated discussions with the head of Dong Jiao and members of the Malaysian curriculum standard group, the overall writing framework and details of six textbooks were finally finalized.
Yu Ziqiang, former director of the Teaching and Research Section of Wenzhou Education Bureau, Zhejiang Province, once served as the deputy head of the National Science Curriculum Standards Development Team and the main person in charge of the Malaysian textbook writing team. He still remembers that after the on-the-spot investigation, taking into account the local teaching practice, the teaching materials have detailed descriptions of each process step of the experiment, and the experimental equipment has tried to choose "basic models" to facilitate the unification of standards. The supporting teacher’s manual provides "hands-on" detailed guidance on the design of important experiments and the guiding methods in teaching.
Three-year science textbooks for junior high schools have been compiled and put into use in 2014, 2015 and 2016 respectively. In view of the actual situation of Chinese independent secondary schools in Malaysia, Zhejiang Education Publishing Group has organized key authors of textbooks to go to Malaysia every year since 2014 to have face-to-face communication with local teachers, explain the design ideas of textbooks and answer specific questions encountered in the teaching process.
The international sharing of educational resources and methods is a trend, and we can only go out if we go in.

Fan Lianghuo also became "angry" because of the compilation of this set of teaching AIDS. Educators from many countries contacted him to discuss the role of mathematics education and exercises, as well as the introduction and publication of this set of books.
"One lesson and one practice" goes out and directly enters the mainstream education system in Britain, which bears the embodiment of China’s comprehensive national strength improvement in the education field since the reform and opening up. "The export of teaching AIDS is groundbreaking, which has laid a good foundation for the international exchanges between Chinese and foreign publishing and education circles in the future, and it is also the historical accumulation result of years of exploration and development of education in China." Fan Lianghuo said.
The output is not only a volume of supplementary teaching materials, but also educational ideas and methods. Yu Ziqiang said that when compiling textbooks, in addition to the requirements of Malaysian junior high school comprehensive science curriculum standards, China traditional culture and modern science education concepts were also combined. A British expert who participated in the review of One Lesson and One Practice (British Edition) said that no one is "better" but "different" in Chinese and western education, and the international sharing and integration of educational resources and methods will be the future trend. For Britain, bringing excellent foreign elements into schools is nothing new, and there will be more things like introducing One Lesson and One Practice in the future.
With the successful experience of compiling junior high school science textbooks, Malaysian Dong Jiao Zong continued to entrust Zhejiang Education Publishing Group to compile senior high school physics, chemistry and biology textbooks, so as to form a coherent middle school science teaching system. At present, the textbooks for the first stage of these three courses have been published and put into use in Chinese schools in January this year. At the end of this year, Mali and Cameroon, two French-speaking African countries, will also use the French version of mathematics textbooks published by Zhejiang Education in primary schools across the country. In addition, Zhejiang Education Publishing Group compiled Hello, Cameroon! In 2016, the basic Chinese textbooks also entered the national education system in Cameroon, Africa. The person in charge of Zhejiang Education Publishing Group said that the output of textbooks requires long-term efforts. Not only are there many considerations when writing, but also follow-up services should be provided, including teaching resources, exercises and training. "We are confident to do better."
